Annuity commission FAQ: beating your current commission

Can BetterAnnuityComp.com beat my current annuity commission?

That is our sole job: no matter your current commission level, if you meet our minimum requirements (solo producers have none), you automatically get higher commission than where you are today. Starting comp is for every producer, including new producers with no experience, and there is no production minimum. If you have strong production to show, we contract you above our starting comp, and established agencies, financial advisors and financial firms, and healthcare agencies can earn above it too. Submit your application, schedule a Zoom and share your current commission levels by carrier. We compare them carrier by carrier and contract you above them, with full back office support, case management, carrier contracting and sales tools included.

Who is starting comp for?

Starting comp is for every producer, including new producers with no experience. It is published for every product by term, commission option and issue age on the carrier list. If you have strong production to show, we contract you above our starting comp, and established agencies, financial advisors and financial firms, and healthcare agencies can earn above it too.

Is there a production minimum for starting comp?

No. Starting comp has no experience requirement and no minimum production, so new producers with no experience start at it too. If you have strong production to show, we contract you above our starting comp — and our job is to beat your current commission.

How does the commission comparison work?

Submit the application for your type, then schedule a Zoom. On the call we review your current commission levels for each carrier you write, compare them carrier by carrier and product by product, and show you where we beat them. Contracting comes next, once you have seen the comparison.

What should I bring to the Zoom call?

Your current commission schedule or contract level for each carrier you write, the carriers you are appointed with, the products you sell most and roughly how much annuity premium you wrote in the last 12 months. Agencies should also bring their downline count and whether agents are paid through an LOA model or direct-to-carrier.

Will I really get higher commission than I have now?

Yes, as long as you meet our minimum requirements, and solo producers have none. No matter your current commission level, you automatically get higher commission than where you are today; that is our job and our mission. On the Zoom call we compare your current levels carrier by carrier and show you your new levels before you move anything. Your contracting paperwork sets the final schedule.

See who we are and how we work.

Is BetterAnnuityComp.com an agency?

No. BetterAnnuityComp.com is powered by BetterLifeQuotes.com, an NGA/IMO Hybrid Distribution Organization. Direct-to-carrier IMO contracts are the source of top-of-market compensation, and strategic NGA partnerships provide plug-and-play access to a large annuity carrier portfolio.

How many annuity carriers can I contract with?

68 annuity carriers and 345 annuity products, including fixed indexed annuities, MYGAs, immediate and deferred income annuities, income-rider annuities and care-focused annuities. See the annuity carrier list for starting comp on every product.

Compensation

What is starting comp?

Starting comp is the commission level, as a percentage of premium, for every producer, with no experience requirement and no production minimum. It is shown for every product by term, commission option and issue age on the carrier list. If you have strong production to show, or you run an agency, we contract you above it, and our job is to beat your current commission.

What is the highest starting comp?

10%, on Mountain Life Skyline Peak Choice (10-year, issue ages 0-80). 46 of the 68 carriers start at 7% or more on at least one product.

Can I choose heaped or trail commissions?

Where the carrier offers commission options, yes. Heaped options pay everything at issue; trail options pay less up front plus ongoing comp. The election is usually made at submission.

Do agencies earn overrides?

Yes. Agencies earn overrides on their own downline production, keep their agents and book, are vested from day one, and own their book, trails and renewals, and hierarchy.

Applying

Who can apply?

Solo annuity producers at any experience level, including new producers with no experience (no minimum requirements), established agencies, financial advisors and financial firms, and healthcare agencies. Each has its own application so the right information is collected.

Can I apply with no annuity experience?

Yes. Solo annuity producers have no minimum requirements, so new producers with no experience can apply and start at our starting comp on 68 carriers and 345 products. Carriers still require an active resident license with the life/annuity line of authority and the annuity training your state and each carrier require before they appoint you, and we line that up with you during onboarding.

What are the requirements for solo producers and financial advisors?

Solo producers have no minimum requirements: there is no experience requirement and no production minimum, and new producers with no experience start at our starting comp. Carriers still require an active resident license with the life/annuity line of authority and the annuity training your state and each carrier require before they appoint you. Financial advisors need 12+ months (1 year) of continuous annuity experience with no gap over about 60 days (there is no production minimum), an active resident life/annuity license, your own E&O, current AML certification, completed state annuity best-interest training, a clean background with no carrier or upline debt, an appointment with at least 1 annuity carrier and your own client base and tools. Every application must be direct, with no recruiter involved.

Are healthcare agencies held to the same requirements?

No. Healthcare and Medicare agencies adding annuities have no minimum requirements, just like solo producers. Their agents still need the life/annuity license, annuity training and AML certification that carriers require.

Do you accept applicants from recruiters?

No. BetterAnnuityComp.com accepts direct applicants only, through the applications on this website. Applicants who come through recruiters or referral services are not onboarded.

What happens if information on my application is not true?

Every applicant attests that what they submit is truthful and complete. Misrepresentation is grounds for immediate termination.

Support and tools

What support is included?

Case management from pre-submission review to issue, back office support, swift onboarding, carrier contracting, real-time annuity rate tracking, SPIA comparison software, and 72(t), Social Security, RMD and stretch IRA calculators, plus access to marketing and sales systems.

Do you provide leads or training?

We don't provide leads; producers use their own lead source or client base. Marketing systems such as direct mail, online advertising, seminars and lead-nurturing campaigns are available, and some are delivered by independent partners that may charge their own fees. Each carrier provides its own product training, and our case management reviews new business and best-interest paperwork before submission.

Can I keep my existing appointments?

Yes. Applicants must already be appointed with at least one annuity carrier. Carriers you are not yet appointed with can be added through contracting; moving existing contracts follows each carrier's release rules.

Still have questions? Start with the application that fits you — the review process will cover the rest.
