MYGA Commission: Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuity Starting Comp

Updated October 2026

Short answer: A multi-year guaranteed annuity (MYGA) is a fixed deferred annuity that credits one guaranteed interest rate for the full guarantee term. MYGA commission (starting comp) is a percentage of premium that generally rises with the length of the term and steps down at older issue ages. Of the 27 MYGAs we pulled from the grid for this page, 23 start at 3% or less.

Our job is to beat your current annuity commission.

Stuck at your current commission level, or simply want higher commission? Our sole purpose is to scale your business by beating your current commission levels. No matter your current commission level, if you meet our minimum requirements (solo producers have none), you automatically get higher commission than where you are today. Starting comp is for every producer, including new producers with no experience — there is no production minimum. If you have strong production to show, we contract you above our starting comp. Established agencies, financial advisors and financial firms, and healthcare agencies can earn much higher too. Submit your application, schedule a Zoom, and we review your current commission levels carrier by carrier and contract you above them — with full back office support, case management, carrier contracting and sales tools included.

MYGA commission: starting comp on multi-year guaranteed annuities for every producer, including new producers with no experience

How MYGAs work

The client deposits a premium and the carrier guarantees a single credited rate for every year of the term. Interest compounds tax-deferred in a non-qualified contract until it's withdrawn, so with no withdrawals the client can see the ending value on the day the contract is issued. The mechanics to walk through at the table:

  • Surrender schedule: usually runs for the guarantee term and applies to withdrawals above the free amount.
  • Free withdrawals: vary by product. Some allow a percentage of value each year; others limit free access to credited interest.
  • Market value adjustment: on some contracts, an early withdrawal is adjusted up or down depending largely on how interest rates have moved since issue.
  • End of term: the client gets a window to renew at the carrier's new rate, move the money by 1035 exchange or transfer, annuitize or withdraw. Window length and default renewal terms vary by carrier.
  • Rates: new-money rates change often, and some carriers credit more on larger premiums. Every guarantee rests on the issuing insurer's claims-paying ability.

Which clients MYGAs fit

  • CD and Treasury shoppers who want a guaranteed rate plus tax deferral on non-qualified money.
  • Money earmarked for a known date, or clients building a ladder of staggered maturities.
  • Conservative savers who want no index or market-linked moving parts at all.
  • IRA owners who want a locked rate. Many contracts let RMDs come out without a surrender charge, but confirm it in the contract.

MYGAs are a weaker fit when the client needs access beyond the free withdrawal, wants lifetime income guarantees, or wants upside potential; a fixed indexed annuity may fit better there. Our FIA vs. MYGA guide covers that decision in depth. The category is large: LIMRA reports fixed-rate deferred annuity sales, which include MYGAs, of $165.3 billion in 2025 and $77.4 billion in the first half of 2026.

MYGA commission structure

  • Comp scales with the term. A longer guarantee keeps the money with the carrier longer, so comp generally rises with term length, though not always in a straight line. Mountain Life's shelf shows the pattern: Alpine Horizon MYGA tops out at 1.75% on a 4-year term, Simple Summit MYGA at 2% on a 5-year term and Secure Summit MYGA at 5% on a 9-year term. Of the 27 MYGAs behind this page, 22 reach their top rate on a term of 7 years or longer.
  • Age bands. Comp steps down at older issue ages. Some MYGAs keep bands open into the late 80s, such as Axonic Waypoint's age 0–89 band, but older bands on most products start lower.
  • Options and timing. Where a carrier offers more than one commission option, the table shows the option with the top starting rate, such as Option 1 on Talcott EverStead. MYGA comp on these schedules is generally a first-year percentage of premium. Chargebacks apply under each carrier's rules.
  • Fit sets the term, not the comp. A 5-year MYGA that matches the client's horizon is the right sale even when a 10-year pays more. Document why the term fits in the best-interest paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

Can BetterAnnuityComp.com beat my current annuity commission?

That is our sole job: no matter your current commission level, if you meet our minimum requirements (solo producers have none), you automatically get higher commission than where you are today. Starting comp is for every producer, including new producers with no experience, and there is no production minimum. If you have strong production to show, we contract you above our starting comp, and established agencies, financial advisors and financial firms, and healthcare agencies can earn above it too. Submit your application, schedule a Zoom and share your current commission levels by carrier. We compare them carrier by carrier and contract you above them, with full back office support, case management, carrier contracting and sales tools included.

How is a MYGA different from a bank CD?

Both lock a rate for a set term. A CD is a bank deposit, while a MYGA is an annuity contract backed by the issuing insurer's claims-paying ability. Interest in a non-qualified MYGA is generally tax-deferred until withdrawn, and early access is limited by surrender charges rather than a bank's early-withdrawal penalty.

Why does a longer MYGA term carry more starting comp?

Longer guarantees keep premium with the carrier for more years, giving it more time to recover acquisition costs. On the grid, Mountain Life's 9-year Secure Summit MYGA starts at 5%, while its 4-year Alpine Horizon MYGA starts at 1.75%.

What happens when a MYGA term ends?

The client usually gets a window to renew at the carrier's current rate, exchange or transfer to another annuity, annuitize, or withdraw. If the client does nothing, many contracts roll into a new period on the carrier's terms, so put maturity dates on your calendar.

Can a MYGA hold IRA money?

Yes. A MYGA can be issued as an IRA, usually funded by a direct transfer or rollover. RMD rules apply to it like any IRA asset, and many contracts allow RMD withdrawals without a surrender charge. Check the specific contract.
